- Four elements that make up Iceland landforms are volcanic fire, ice, water and wind
- One of the most active volcanic regions on Earth
- Prominent features include:
- Mountains - highest point is 6,923 feet above sea level (http://need.is/jardvefur/images/stories/pdf/height_range.pdf)
- Glaciers - cover 4,600 sq. mi or 11.5% of total area - Biggest contributor to Icelandic rivers, lakes, and waterfalls
- Geysers - create columns of steam and hot water that rise from lithosphere
- Hot Springs - numerous in Iceland due to volcanic heat
- Volcanoes - have around 130 volcanic mountains which are home to both active and extinct systems
- Waterfalls - are numerous on Island due to glaciers and volcanic landscape
- Aurora Borealis - Can be seen September through April
